Is that Sarah Palin or Bill Nye?

but wait...Sarah Palin says otherwise:

Climate change denier Sarah Palin: ‘Bill Nye is as much a scientist as I am’

Is it me, or is she purposely trying to destroy her 15 minutes?

Well to be fair, Nye never called himself a scientist. He’s the “Science Guy” and Palin is the “Science Experiment."

I really hope it’s Nye.

Nye is like me, an engineer. That said we both know more about science than Palin.

And a mechanical engineer at that, one of the most expansive and rigorous engineering fields there is. Of course he’s a science expert, he kind of has to be.

I studied automotive but I work in mechanical, it’s a steep learning curve. I’m not an expert yet.

I’m studying mechanical right now, and holy shit so much math and application. Not to mention all the chemistry and physics required. It sort of makes you want to start a TV show.

Doing a successful TV show is easier than a mech eng degree.

I’m fairly certain that the universe is not expanding that fast. It’s pretty freaking big already, so it takes a while to even double in size.

Going to be honest. I have next to zero respect for both Nye and Neil degrasse tyson.

One doesn’t have to have a degree to knowledgeable in a field, just hireable. That said Palin is neither.

They’re fake scientists who play political games using their influence.

I get they’ve done some real work, but the majority of their careers have been PR and crazy agendas. Shit that science doesn’t need

Relatively speaking though how fast is that really? I mean it’s already quite big isnt it?

That’s the game you gotta play if you want to get more young people interested in science.

Bull shit. We don’t need political, social, religious etc commentary to help promote science unless it is of specific significance / to learn something in a structured, scientific way.

Nye has done some great stuff, as has tyson. However, they misuse their influence way too much and honestly has devalued their efforts for science.

There are plenty of better people who could do the job and keep out of issues that aren’t related to science.

Well, assuming its a sphere(and I know it’s not, but I do not hold enough math/astronomy degrees to correctly calculate the shape of the universe, it will roughly double in volume for every 25% increase in radius. The observable universe is 91 billion light years in diameter, so if it’s expanding at the speed of light, that’s a doubling every 11.375 billion years or so. The truly messed up part is that due to reasons that make sense to people that are far smarter than me, it can actually expand faster than the speed of light as it is not just galaxies moving away from each other, but space itself is expanding. Meaning that even if two distant objects are stationary relative to each other the amount of space between them can/ will increase because space itself is getting bigger. It only works at absurd distances, and huge masses, such as galactic clusters(i.e. you and your closest thousand galaxies or so.
